Alex Thorpe speaks to Property Week on the importance of the revised Whole Life Carbon Assessment
“A unified understanding of the definition of net zero is crucial” –
CO-RE’s Associate Director, Alex Thorpe, shared her thoughts with Lewis Berrill for Property Week when discussing the latest edition of the Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) shared by RICS.
Alex highlighted the importance of working collectively when it comes to reducing the industry’s carbon footprint and using tools that will accelerate carbon reductions, such as the WLCA. The UK Green Building Council shared that the built environment accounts for 40% of global carbon emissions, so it is vital concerted action is taken.
“The WLCA’s primary benefit is facilitating informed decision-making, so that buildings are designed with the best interests of all major stakeholders, including the planet, from the outset…The WLCA considers all stages of a project’s lifecycle…[and] specifically includes ‘user carbon’, which goes further by considering not only building occupancy but also how users arrive at the building.”
Within all our CO—RE projects, projects, we work collaboratively with Client and project teams to deliver innovative projects that protect and enhance the built and natural environment whilst supporting the transition to net zero.
